Treat these addresses as model-checking clues. The exact computer IP, router IP, protocol direction, and firmware filename must come from the recovery documentation for the model and hardware revision.

This table does not mean every device from one brand uses the same IP, or that Router Recovery handles every recovery method listed.

UNDERSTAND THE FIELDS

Understand three fields in the table

Router IP

The address exposed in recovery mode. It may differ from normal admin and may appear only briefly.

Temporary computer IP

Another address used by Mac Ethernet in the same subnet. It must not conflict with the router or another device.

Protocol direction

Router Recovery prepares local TFTP Server cases where the router requests a file from the Mac. Active upload, Web, and NMRP are different paths.

SAFE USE ORDER

Move from an IP clue to one safe recovery attempt

Change the network only after model evidence is clear. Restore the Mac to its normal configuration after recovery.

    Confirm the model and source

    Record the exact model, hardware revision, and region, then open the matching vendor or device recovery document.

  2. Step 2

    Confirm the IP and direction

    Separate the router address, computer address, and whether the router requests or the computer uploads.

  3. Step 3

    Set Mac Ethernet

    Connect directly, change only the target Ethernet interface, and enter the temporary static IP required by the guide.

  4. Step 4

    Restore the network afterward

    After transfer and reboot, stop TFTP and return the Mac interface to DHCP or its previous settings.

FAQ

Router recovery IP questions

Why can’t I use one fixed IP for an entire brand?

Models, hardware revisions, and bootloaders from the same brand may use different addresses, filenames, and recovery protocols. A brand narrows the search but does not replace model documentation.

Is 192.168.1.254 the most universal Mac recovery IP?

No. It is only one common same-subnet choice when the router uses 192.168.1.1/24. Vendor documents may require 192.168.0.66, 192.168.1.10, 192.168.1.88, or another address.

Why do some guides say TFTP Server and others say TFTP Client?

The direction differs. The Mac runs a Server when the router requests a file; the computer runs a Client when it actively uploads to the router. These are not the same workflow.

What should I do after recovery?

Stop the temporary TFTP service, return Mac Ethernet to DHCP or its previous settings, and restore normal firewall and network connections.
